Kolkata: The father of the victim, 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s handling of the case. According to him, there is more to the incident than what has been revealed and feels let down by the lack of action from the state government.
“We are not satisfied with the role of the CM in this case. She did not do any work. The incident which took place with my daughter, we have been saying this since starting with a person from the department involved in this. We think no one will celebrate Durga Puja this year. If someone celebrates, they will not be celebrating with happiness, because all the people of Bengal and the country consider my daughter their daughter,” the victim’s father said.

What victim’s mother said
The family remains firm in their belief that a member of the hospital staff was involved in the crime. “They have only arrested Sanjay Roy in the case. We have been saying this since starting that another person from the department is involved in this,” the father said.
Earlier, the mother of the victim also spoke out against the chief minister’s appeal to shift public focus from the ongoing protests to Durga Puja festivities. She called Banerjee’s remarks “insensitive” and said that her family will never celebrate Durga Puja again after the loss of their daughter.
The mother accused the chief minister of trying to suppress the protests demanding justice for her daughter, saying, “The lamp at my home has gone out forever. They throttled my daughter to death. They are now trying to throttle the demand for justice.”
Protests across country demanding justice for victim
The case has sparked widespread protests across West Bengal, with junior doctors and the general public demanding swift justice for the victim, who was found semi-naked and brutally murdered on August 9.
Protests have now been going on for over a month, and Banerjee has called for calm, requesting that people “return to festivities” and allow the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete its investigation.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, Mamata Banerjee sent a letter inviting the protesting doctors to meet her at the secretariat. However, the protesters found the invitation “insulting” as it was sent by the state health secretary, whose resignation they have been demanding.
They also criticised the decision to restrict the number of representatives allowed to attend the meeting to just 10, calling it “humiliating.”
