New Delhi: Sushil Singhania, the uncle of Nikita Singhania, estranged wife of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, has denied any involvement in the allegations surrounding Subhash’s tragic suicide. Speaking to news agency PTI, the 70-year-old maintained his innocence, saying that he had not been in contact with the couple for years and was not associated with the ongoing legal disputes.
“I came to know through media reports that my name has been mentioned in the FIR. However, I am not connected to this case. The divorce proceedings have been ongoing for the past three years, but I haven’t met them since then,” Singhania said. He added, “We don’t know what happened. We are not guilty. The court will deliver its judgment.”
A 24-page suicide note left by Subhash
The allegations against Singhania and other family members stem from a 24-page suicide note left by Subhash, who detailed alleged harassment and extortion by his wife’s family during their divorce proceedings. Subhash’s brother, Bikas Kumar, lodged a complaint accusing Nikita and her family of demanding Rs 3 crore to settle legal disputes and Rs 30 lakh for visitation rights to Subhash’s four-year-old son.
Singhania refuted the claims, calling them baseless. “Nikita is not here at the moment, but she has all the answers. She will respond to every allegation. I live separately and don’t have much information about the case,” he said.
Subhash’s death has sparked public outrage
Subhash’s death has sparked public outrage, with his note and video raising concerns over harassment in marital disputes and alleged biases in the legal system. His note criticised the justice system, alleging bribes were taken in a family court and that the system encouraged false accusations.
The Bengaluru police have launched an investigation and have sent a team to Jaunpur to question Nikita, her mother, and other accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivakumar stated, “Based on the complaint, we have registered an FIR against the accused. An investigation is underway.”
