Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said that it was an India sailor not Columbus who discovered America discovered. He went on to say that an Indian architect, who made statues of Lord Ram, helped designed the city of Beijing.
Parmer claimed that Vasulun, an Indian sailor, “went to America in the 8th Century and built several temples in San Diego”. He further said that these facts are still documented in a museum there and preserved in libraries. Parmer made the statements during the convocation ceremony of Barkatullah university. Governor Mangubhai C Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav were also present at the event.
‘Our ancestors discovered America’
The Madhya Pradesh minister said that not Columbus, but “our ancestors” discovered America. “If something needed to be taught, it should have been correctly taught – that our ancestors discovered America, not Columbus,” he added. The minister said that Indians had helped develop the culture – the Maya civilization – followed by Americans back then. “This is India’s way of thinking and philosophy that should have been taught to students,” he added.
‘Vasco da Gama didn’t discovered sea route to India’
The Madhya Pradesh minister claimed that the Vasco da Gama didn’t chart a route to India but only followed a ‘Gujarati sea merchant’ to India. “Vasco da Gama had mentioned that an Indian trader named Chandan was sailing on the same route ahead of him. Chandan discovered India, and not Vasco da Gama. However, historians wrongly taught Indian students that Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route to India. Wrong history is being taught to our students,” he said.
Parmer further said that India has been portrayed negatively in the world as historians systematically undermined country’s strengths and presented false facts.
