New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Hema Malini on Tuesday called the Maha Kumbh stampede in Prayagraj as ‘not a big incident’ causing an outrage. She said everything was well managed and the stampede thing was being exaggerated.
“We went to Kumbh, we had a very nice bath. Yes, it’s there was an incident, but that was not that big. I don’t know how big it was. All this is being exaggerated…But yes, there was an incident.. it was well-managed, and everything was done very well… earlier also it was good.. So many people are coming and it is very difficult to manage, but we are doing our best…PM is going there because it’s all right there,” Hema Malini said while talking to reporters.
‘It’s opposition job to criticise’
When asked about the criticism by opposition leaders, Hema Malini said they will say what they want and it’s their job to do so. Last week, Hema Malini went to Maha Kumbh and took a ‘holy dip’ and called it a ‘never before experience’.
Meanwhile, Hema Malini’s comments invited sharp criticism from Congress MP Tariq Anwar she will never know what it was like (referring to crowding at Maha Kumbh that led to stampede).
‘Really regrettable statement’
“Hema Malini can never know the reality because she got a VIP treatment when she went there. Whatever mismanagement happened at kumbh was because of the VIP arrangements. Officials were busy with VIP arrangements but never cared for the common people. It is really regrettable if Hema Malini is calling the entire tragedy a ‘not so big incident’,” Tariq Anwar, MP from Bihar’s Katihar, said while talking to ANI.
