New Delhi: A cold wave continues to persist in North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Jammu and Kashmir, as parts of the Union Territory may witness heavy snowfall today. It also predicted heavy rainfall/snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh until January 6.
The weather department also issued an ‘orange’ warning in Jammu and Kashmir, as parts of the Union Territory may witness. According to it, isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms can be expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and North West part of Uttar Pradesh in the next two days, with snowfall likely in Uttarakhand.
The weather department predicts a gradual rise in minimum temperature
Sharing further details, the weather department predicted a gradual rise in minimum temperature by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the Western Himalayan Region in the next three days. As per it, the temperature may fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius after the said period. Meanwhile, a thick layer of fog blanketed parts of Delhi on Sunday morning, due to which several flight and train services were affected in the national capital. The capital also witnessed cold waves and a drop in temperature in the morning.
On January 4, the minimum temperature was below 0 degrees Celsius in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius in Himachal Pradesh. The temperature also dipped by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in Himachal Pradesh.
Thick fog enveloped in North India on Saturday
On Saturday, thick fog enveloped most parts of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi-NCR region. Several parts of Punjab and Haryana have experienced thick fog in the last few days. Visibility dropped to zero in many places, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Ambala, Hisar, and Karnal. Narnaul was the coldest place in Haryana, with a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius. Hisar, too, recorded a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius. Gurugram and Bhiwani recorded temperatures of nearly 6 degrees Celsius.
