New Delhi: The northern India continues to experience severe cold wave with weather across the region remains dynamic. The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain in the region for Monday. High-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive fresh spells of snowfall and rain due to active western disturbances, the valley received snowfall on Sunday too. These disturbances are expected to affect both the mountainous and plain regions in north India. IMD has also predicted dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR in the coming days.
For the national capital, the weather department has predicted cloudy skies and light rainfall for Monday, likely to increase cold in the city. Surface winds are expected to blow from the southeast at a speed of less than 4 km/h during the morning. Moderate fog is expected in most areas, with dense fog likely in some pockets. By the afternoon, wind speeds may increase to 6–8 km/h, shifting from the southeast, and are expected to drop below 6 km/h from the northwest during the evening and night.
Air and rail travel remain affected in Delhi
For third day in a row Delhi witnessed dense fog on Sunday, although the duration was shorter compared to Saturday. While fog enveloped the city for nine hours on Saturday, it lasted for about three and a half hours on Sunday. At Delhi airport, visibility dropped to zero between 4am and 7.30am on Sunday.
Over 50 trains are running late due to low visibility in the national capital. There has been no reports of any delay in flight operations, however, the Delhi airport in a post on X has asked passengers to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information.
“Low Visibility Procedures are still in progress at Delhi Airport. However, there has been no impact on flight operations. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” the post by Delhi Airport read. In another post it said that due to adverse weather conditions in Srinagar, Patna, and Kolkata, all departures and arrivals to/from these cities are impacted at Delhi airport.
Punjab and Haryana in severe cold grip
The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 18°C, while the minimum could drop to 11°C. Delhi’s air quality remains in the “very poor” category.
Meanwhile, temperatures in the valley plummeted on Sunday, with Kokernag in south Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of -8.1°C. Srinagar’s temperature dropped to -2.5°C. Most parts of Haryana and Punjab continued to reel under intense cold on Sunday. Narnaul recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 6.8°C. Karnal in Haryana recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C, Ambala 8.3°C, Hisar 8.8°C, Bhiwani 8.9°C, Gurugram 9.3°C, and Rohtak 10.3°C.
