Soon after the incident, the university spokesperson Amir Mahjob shared on microblogging site X that “at the police station,…it was found that she was under severe mental pressure and had a mental disorder”.
But some social media users suggested the woman’s action was a deliberate protest.

No news of Iranian woman who stripped at university campus
The incident attracted angry remarks supporting the woman on social media. Amnesty International also condemned the act demanded the woman’s release.
“Iran’s authorities must immediately and unconditionally release the university student. Pending her release, authorities must protect her from torture and ensure access to her family and lawyer,” as reported by Barrons, a US-based publishing house.
There have been multiple incidents in the past where women have publicly defied the strict Islamic rules in the country. Iran witnessed nationwide protests in September 2022 after the death of a young Iranian Kurdish woman in police custody who was detained allegedly for violating hijab rules.
