Dehradun: In a major bus accident at Aamdali near Bhimtal in Nainital district last Wednesday, four people lost their lives, and the death toll reached five when a student succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
The investigation revealed that there was no negligence; the driver lost control while trying to avoid a car coming from the opposite direction.
No negligence on the part of the driver has been found yet
Following this incident, the police and transport department conducted an investigation to determine the cause. ASP Dr. Jagdish Chandra reported that the investigation revealed the bus lost control while attempting to avoid a car, broke through the parapet, and fell into the gorge.
Meanwhile, RTO Gurudev Singh stated that none of the injured passengers admitted to Dr. Sushila Tiwari Hospital reported that the bus was speeding. The driver was not found to be under the influence of alcohol, and no negligence on his part has been identified. The investigation confirmed that all the bus documents were complete and in order. Additionally, the Transport Department’s investigation found the bus to be technically fit.
Bus was travelling to Haldwani from Pithoragarh
The bus from Haldwani depot departed Pithoragarh for Haldwani at 5 am on Wednesday with passengers onboard. After crossing Bhimtal around 1 pm, the driver lost control while attempting to avoid a car at a turn near Amdali. The bus crashed through the parapet and plummeted into a 150-foot-deep ditch, causing it to shatter and leading to passengers’ screams. Local residents and police quickly arrived at the scene. Using ropes, they helped the injured reach the road, but by that time, four people, including a couple, had died.
Tragically, a student succumbed to injuries during treatment on Thursday
Out of the 29 passengers on the bus, 24 were injured in the accident. Six of the injured remain in critical condition, and one passenger was airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS after their condition deteriorated. Four passengers died at the scene, and 25 were injured. Tragically, 21-year-old Diksha Prakash succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning, raising the death toll to five.
Injured are being treated in Haldwani
The injured are receiving treatment at Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani. Principal Dr. Arun Joshi confirmed that the injured are being properly cared for. The critically injured patients are in the ICU, and six patients remain in critical condition. One patient has been airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS for further treatment.
