No more ‘Good Mornings’, now ‘Jai Hind’ to be new greeting in Haryana schools

Chandigarh: Haryana government has announced a new rule for government and private schools across the state. Starting from August 15, the day of the country’s 77th Independence Day celebrations, students will be required to greet each other with “Jai Hind” instead of “Good Morning.”

According to the notification, this change is being introduced to boost national unity and patriotism among school children.

What Education Department said

A two-page notification from the Education Department explained why this decision has been made. The department said that it believes that using “Jai Hind” will help instil a sense of national pride and unity in students. They said that children, who are in their formative years, are like “wet clay” and can be shaped by the values they learn early on.

The notification highlighted that “Jai Hind,” a slogan given by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose when he founded the Azad Hind Fauj, symbolises respect for those who fought for the country’s freedom. By adopting this greeting, the government hopes to inspire students about national history and the sacrifices made for independence.

New rule to be implemented from August 15

The Director of Education has instructed all district and block officials to ensure that school principals and headmasters implement this new practice as soon as possible. The change will be in effect before the hoisting of the tricolour flag on Independence Day.
