New Delhi: Paying exorbitant prices for food and beverages at airports may soon be a thing of the past with the Centre planning to bring out a major reform aimed at providing affordable refreshment and meal options for flyers across the country.
According to sources in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, efforts are underway to make airport travel more economical and inclusive for all travellers.
Budget-friendly food stalls at airports
The government has finalised plans to launch kiosks or stalls at Indian airports, which will offer budget-friendly snacks, tea, coffee, and water. Initially, these kiosks will be set up at airports operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), with plans to expand the initiative to all major airports nationwide later.
The kiosks will provide essential refreshments at affordable prices, catering to the budgets of common travellers. In addition to enhancing the passenger experience, this initiative is expected to create job opportunities.
Women, differently-abled to run new food kiosks
The government has decided that kiosk operations will be exclusively reserved for differently-abled men and women, ensuring a more accessible and inclusive workforce.
Sources also suggested that the primary goal of this initiative is to make air travel more comfortable and affordable for every citizen, while also generating employment opportunities for individuals who need it the most.
With this new scheme, passengers can look forward to reasonably priced food and beverages at airports, making their travel experience more convenient and accessible.
