New Delhi: All ten franchises are busy finalising their retention plans ahead of the deadline of October 31. Thursday is the deadline for the ten Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to submit their final retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Gujarat Titans (GT) have reportedly decided to retain 3 players for the next season.
As per Sports Tak, sources have revealed that Gujarat Titans are planning to retain skipper Shubman Gill, star spinner Rashid Khan and uncapped Indian all-rounder Rahul Tewatia ahead of the auction. However, it remains unclear who will be the top retention between captain Gill and Rashid, and if Tewatia will be retained in the uncapped category for Rs 4 crore or if he will get the third retention slot for Rs 11 crore.
Gujarat Titans had splurged Rs 9 crore to sign Tewatia in the 2022 mega auction and the all-rounder went on to play a key role in their maiden title triumph in their debut season in IPL 2022. It won’t come as a surprise if Tewatia is retained at Rs 11 crore by Gujarat Titans. However, it remains to be seen what the team management will decide ahead of the deadline.
Mohammed Shami to not be retained
As per the report, Gujarat Titans are unlikely to retain senior India pacer Mohammed Shami. Howerver, the 2022 champions might use the RTM option to get the pacer back at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shami has been part of the franchsie since their IPL debut in 2022 and is the second-highest wicket-taker for the franchise with 48 wickets from 33 matches, including two 4-wicket hauls.
Shami will be one of the best Indian fast bowlers available in the auction pool if he is released by Gujarat Titans. Uncapped batter Sai Sudharsan is another promising name that might not be retained by the franchise. Sudharsan has done well for GT in the last three seasons and is the 2nd highest run-getter for the franchise with 1034 runs from 25 matches at a strike rate close to 140.
While the official list is not out yet, it remains to be seen what will the Gujarat Titans team management decide as the deadline approaches.
