New Delhi: Even though the controversy over the alleged use of animal fat in Tirupati laddoos continues to rage, the sale of the prasad at Sri Venkateshwara Temple drawing more than 60,000 people every day hasn’t been affected, according to an NDTV report.
The temple administration has claimed that over four days, more than 14 lakh Tirupati laddoos have been sold. On September 19, sale of 3.59 lakh laddoos was recorded, on September 20 3.17 lakh were sold, on September 21 3.67 lakh, and 3.60 lakh on September 22. These figures of sale indicate that they match their average daily sale count of 3.50 lakh laddoos.
Some devotees affirmed that the Tirupati laddoo row is history, while others believed that the controversy can’t influence their strong faith.
More than 3 lakh laddoos are prepared at the temple on a daily basis. Devotees who visit the temple buy them in huge quantities. They also distribute them among their relatives and friends.
Tirupati laddoos contain cow ghee, Bengal gram, sugar, raisins, cashews and almonds. Around 15,000 kg of cow ghee goes into the making of laddoos every day.
It’s Naidu vs Reddy out in the open
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the ghee which was used to make Tirupati laddoos during the regime of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP contained animal fat. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the matter of unholy adulteration.
While countering the allegations, former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, whose party YSRCP lost in the state polls this year, has said that the ruling TDP is “politicising religious matters”. Reddy accused Naidu of being a “habitual liar” and has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting his intervention in the matter. In the letter, Jagan alleged that CM Naidu has stooped so low as to hurt the beliefs of crores of people for political objectives.
