New Delhi: In a major operation related to the 2023 violent assault by a pro-Khalistani group at the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized numerous incriminating documents and digital devices in raids across 13 locations in Punjab on Friday.
Raids linked to Khalistani leader implicated in the case
The NIA teams targeted locations in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Patiala, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Tarn Taran, and Moga. These sites are linked to Amarjot, a Khalistani leader implicated in the case, along with his associates.
Amarjot is named in FIR RC-17/2023/NIA/DLI, which was filed on 16 June last year under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The investigation reveals that Amarjot led the protestors responsible for raising anti-India slogans, placing a Khalistani flag on the boundary wall of the High Commission, and throwing two grenades inside the building on 23 March 2023.
NIA confiscated a range of digital devices
During the searches, NIA teams confiscated a range of digital devices, including mobile phones, SIM cards, pen drives, iPads, DVRs, hard disks, SSDs, and memory cards, as well as financial records and incriminating documents.
Further investigations are underway in the case.
