Mohali: In a significant operation against pro-Khalistan terrorist groups, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in coordination with Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have arrested a key terrorist following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The arrest took place on Friday morning.
This terrorist was the mastermind of Mohali RPG attack. The arrested person is Tarsem Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab, and the brother of Lakhbir Singh Landa, who is a terrorist.
Tarsem Singh’s involvement with BKI
Tarsem Singh had been wanted for his involvement with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist organisation. A non-bailable arrest warrant had been issued against him since June 2023, and he was listed in a case managed by the NIA.
Tarsem Singh was initially detained in Abu Dhabi in November 2023. This followed the issuance of the arrest warrant by an NIA special court and a Red Corner Notice from INTERPOL. On Friday, he was extradited from the UAE to India, following INTERPOL’s procedures.
According to the NIA, Tarsem Singh played a crucial role in the terrorist network by arranging and providing funds for terror activities. He was involved in channelling money through various routes to support the operations of Harwinder Sandhu, also known as Rinda, and Lakhbir Singh Landa. These funds were used for planning and executing terrorist acts in India.
What NIA’s investigation revealed
The NIA began its investigation on August 20, 2022. The probe focused on the activities of several banned terrorist organisations, including the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), BKI and the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF).
These groups have established a widespread network of operatives involved in smuggling arms, ammunition, and explosives into India. They also use illegal activities such as narcotics trafficking and extortion to fund their operations.
