New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has recently conducted multiple searches at the residence of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, located in Beleghata. In addition to uncovering a property in Canning linked to Ghosh, investigators have discovered two additional flats within the city. These new properties are situated close to Ghosh’s four-storey residence in Beleghata and one of the garages at this location houses a brand-new SUV.
No identifying nameplate at these flats
According to the caretaker of a building adjacent to Beleghata ID Hospital, both newly identified flats belong to Ghosh. The caretaker indicated that Ghosh used one flat on the ground floor as an office and another flat on the third floor. Despite this, Ghosh reportedly visited these properties infrequently. The SUV in the parking area is relatively new, having been purchased approximately 3-4 months ago. Ghosh has been seen using this vehicle occasionally. Although there is no identifying nameplate at these flats, the SUV displays several badges from National Medical or RG Kar.
Investigators suspect that Ghosh deliberately avoided registering his name at these flats to obscure his identity. The newly discovered properties are within walking distance of Ghosh’s main residence, Balaji Niwas. The central agency is intrigued by the close proximity and number of Ghosh’s properties. Additionally, Ghosh is known to visit his property in Canning occasionally, which features a large garden and a swimming pool.
Financial misconduct at RG Kar during Ghosh’s tenure
On September 2, the CBI arrested Ghosh along with three others in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This scrutiny follows the reported rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital last month.
The ED has also launched an investigation, conducting raids on several locations associated with Ghosh across West Bengal on Friday. These raids, which spanned nine locations in Kolkata and its suburbs are part of a broader investigation into alleged financial misconduct at RG Kar Hospital during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
The probe into these financial irregularities, spearheaded by both the CBI and ED, began following the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor on August 9 in the seminar hall of the hospital.
