New Delhi: India and Brazil share a rich history of bilateral ties spanning 75 years with both the nations having a common heritage of the struggle for independence and development and forging the foundation of this entire bilateral cooperation. In fact, Brazil had taken from India the Baton of the -20 presidency only last year. How is the relationship progressing and what can be expected in future, TV9 Executive Editor Aditya Raj Kaul talks to Brazil ambassador to India Kenneth Nobrega.
Fighting poverty and climate change
“What we have been doing is we have set up two task forces to fight poverty and hunger and other one, to fight climate change so that we can deliver for the for the world tangible results, meaning the G20 can deliver for you tangible result,” Brazil ambassador to India Kenneth Nobrega told TV9 Network.
Organised in G-20 for first time
Kenneth Nobrega maintained that the G-20 grouping is organized for the first time.
“Another point is that we have organized for the first time in the G20 history. G20 Foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the General Assembly, on the sidelines of the so-called Presidents’ Week. and we opened the meeting to the whole membership of the of the UN,” he said.
Need to expand Security Council
Brazil ambassador to India Kenneth Nobrega has advocated for the need to reform the United Nations Security Council to reflect the current geopolitical situation.
“And then we are still opening, the meeting to the whole membership. So this is a very important, and has a very symbolic weight, I think. And the third thing is related to the reform of global governance institutions. We also, emphasize in our presidency this aspect. So you managed to deliver during this summit presidential declaration, which was very difficult to, to pull off, because, you know, after the geopolitical tensions. And so we built also on that, we approved in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly. We approved, so-called a document called so-called, call for action, where you have, the whole G20 membership, agreeing clearly on the need of the reform of the global governance institutions, in a sense, to promote a more inclusive transparency, accountability and so on,” the envoy asserted.
