Mumbai: Sharad Pawar faction of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday released its first list of candidates for Maharashtra assembly elections. The list comprises 45 names, including several prominent figures set to contest key constituencies.
Sharad Pawar has fielded his grandson, Yugendra Pawar, from Baramati seat, where he will go head-to-head against his uncle, Ajit Pawar. Ajit has a strong hold on this constituency, having consistently won elections from Baramati since 1991.
Ajit Pawar versus Yugendra Pawar
Ajit Pawar, who recently broke away from his uncle’s NCP to form his own faction, now faces a challenge from within his own family. Yugendra Pawar, the son of Ajit’s younger brother, is set to contest the Baramati seat, adding a new dimension to the political rivalry within the Pawar family.
Yugendra was actively involved in campaigning in Baramati during this year’s Lok Sabha elections, and his candidacy is expected to bring attention to this high-stakes contest.
These names included in NCP’s list
At a press conference, NCP’s Maharashtra president Jayant Patil announced the list of candidates. Apart from Yugendra Pawar’s candidacy in Baramati, Jayant Patil himself will be contesting from the Islampur constituency, while Anil Deshmukh has been given the ticket for the Katol seat.
The list also includes Harshvardhan Patil from Indapur, Rohit Pawar from Karjat-Jamkhed, and Mahesh Kothe from Solapur City South. Other candidates include Prashant Jagtap from Hadapsar and Samarjeet Ghatge from Kagal. In Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal, Rohit Patil has been selected to represent the Sharad Pawar faction.
