The Indian Navy has test-fired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile known as K4 from INS Arighaat submarine. The K-4 ballistic missile has a range of 3,500 Km. The missile was launched from the newly-inducted nuclear submarine INS Arighaat, said an ANI report.
The test launch of the nuclear capable ballistic missile from a submarine platform is expected to boost India’s second strike capability. The Navy is expected to conduct further tests of the missile in near future. The nuclear-capable domestically produced ballistic missile is expected to add more teeth to the navy’s might.
Ahead of the missile test, extensive trials were conducted by DRDO for the test-firing of the missile from underwater platforms. India currently possesses two-nuclear capable missiles namely INS Arihant and INS Arighaat. The two submarines have the capability to fire ballistic missiles.
