Dehradun: In a groundbreaking move towards environmental conservation, Uttarakhand is set to launch a “Sports Forest” on 2.77 hectares of land near Maharana Pratap Sports College, a venue for sports activity in Dehradun.
This initiative aims to give an effective message of ‘Green Games’ during the 38th National Games, scheduled to host a significant event on February 10.
The Significance of the Sports Forest
The Sports Forest will feature the plantation of 1,600 Rudraksh trees in honour of the medal-winning players of the National Games. This initiative, led by the National Sports Secretariat, emphasizes the theme of Green Games and is a testament to the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.

Prime Minister’s praise and preparation efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the opening ceremony of the National Games, lauded the Uttarakhand government for its green initiative. The establishment of the Sports Forest is being meticulously prepared, with fencing being installed to protect the newly planted trees.
Amit Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Secretariat, highlighted that every tree planted would serve as a lasting memory of the winners’ golden performance. “With the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are successfully organizing the National Games on the theme of Green Games. We have taken many such steps while taking green initiatives, which will send the message of environmental protection far and wide. Sports Forest is an important effort in this series,” said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
