New Delhi: Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 is taking shape rapidly, with significant progress on the Kamptee corridor. The viaducts of the Orange Line extension have now passed Khairi and are nearing Kamptee, with just the final stretch to Kanhan left.
The 13km corridor, with 12 stations, is the most station-dense and the second-longest segment in Phase 2 of the project. Metro officials said that the Kamptee stretch is ahead in construction compared to all four reaches of the project.
A senior Metro official stated that construction has begun on 14 of the 32 stations planned for Phase 2, with work progressing across all four sections of the project. MahaMetro confirmed that tenders for most of Phase 2’s components have been issued and awarded, with only a few still pending finalisation. While tenders for all viaduct and station-related work have been completed, track tenders are still pending final nod, the official added.

Entire Phase 2 network to be ready for public use by Dec 2027
The Mihan-Butibori stretch, which recently started groundwork, is backed by a casting yard near Gumgaon village that was inaugurated in December. This facility will likely produce essential segments for the Metro’s construction. At present, three casting yards are operational for Phase 2. Additionally, preparatory work on the Hingna and Pardi corridors is also underway. Officials hope that the entire Phase 2 network will be ready for public use by December 2027.
Phase 2 of Nagpur Metro covers a total distance of 43.8km and will have 32 stations, designed to link the city’s peripheral areas with its central core. The Rs 6,708 crore project is being financed through contributions from the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with equity investments from both the central and state governments.
