The protest march to Nabanno, the state secretariat, which houses the office of the Chief Minister, has been called to demand justice for the rape-murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The state police have termed the rally “illegal” and “unauthorized,” citing concerns over potential violence and public disorder. The ruling Trinamool Congress has denounced the rally as a “conspiracy” to create public disorder. Meanwhile, Governor CV Ananda Bose has requested the state government to refrain from using force to prevent the rally, advocating for the students’ right to protest.
