Mussoorie: The five-day Winter Line Carnival in Mussoorie is set to commence today, offering a range of sports and cultural activities for both participants and tourists. The event will feature rock climbing, karate shows, bird watching, nature photography, and a cycle rally, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for all attendees.
Renowned Jagar singer and Padma Shree awardee Basanti Bisht, along with Preetam Bharatwan, will grace the carnival with their performances, celebrating the winter line in Mussoorie. The Garhwal Commissioner will officially inaugurate the carnival. Notably, for the first time, a procession will not be organized for the event.
SDM Dehradun launched the brochure
SDM Dehradun Sadar Hari Giri has launched the brochure poster for the Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival, which kicks off on December 26. He announced that various programs will be held across Mussoorie from December 26 to 30. Highlights include Star Night, presentations by folk artists from Uttarakhand, heritage walks, band performances, nature photography, and bird watching.
Cultural and star night programs will run whole day and late night
The carnival will be inaugurated by the Garhwal Commissioner at Gandhi Chowk on December 26 at 4 pm. SDM Hari Giri mentioned that cultural and star night programs will run from morning to late night, starting with heritage walks, nature photography, and bird watching in the morning. This will be followed by various cultural activities at Gandhi Chowk, Garhwal Terrace, Shaheed Sthal, and Landour Chowk in the afternoon.
Performances by many artists
In the evenings, a Star Night program will be held at the Nagar Palika Town Hall, featuring performances by Uttarakhand’s Padma Shri Pritam Bharatwan, Basanti Bisht, Kishan Mahipal, Reshma Shah, UK Rappy Boy, Rajat Sood, Varun Jain, Krishna Shah and Ruhaan, Nikhil D’Souza, and others. Bands from ITBP and CRPF will also perform. All preparations for the event have been completed.
No cultural procession in the Winter Line Carnival this year
For the first time, there will be no cultural procession in the Winter Line Carnival. SDM Sadar Hari Giri explained that the model code of conduct has been imposed following the announcement of civic elections in Uttarakhand, which prevents the carnival parade and cultural procession from taking place. Nevertheless, the carnival will be inaugurated at Gandhi Chowk on December 26 at 4 pm. State activist and senior cultural figure Pradeep Bhandari has strongly criticized the absence of a cultural procession in the 2024 Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival. He highlighted that this is the first time in the 75-year history of Mussoorie’s cultural programs that the Carnival procession will not be held.
