New Delhi: Quincy Jones, a music industry legend who collaborated with iconic artists including Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra during his remarkable career, has reportedly passed away. He was 91 years old when he breathed his last.
Quincy’s publicist Arnold Robinson was quoted as saying by PTI that he died on Sunday night (November 3, 2024) at his Los Angeles residence in Bel Air, surrounded by his family. As news of his passing spread like wildfire online, fans flooded social media with messages of mourning.
Indian music director AR Rahman shared a series of pictures with Quincy on Instagram. He wrote on the popular photo-sharing platform that another shining star from Earth has dissolved into the infinite. Clint Eastwood also expressed deep sadness at Quincy’s passing. The renowned director posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), “He will be truly missed.”
Quincy Jones’ awards
You will be amazed to know that Quincy was honoured with 28 Grammy Awards for his groundbreaking contributions to the entertainment industry. But that is not all! He also received a Primetime Emmy Award and a Tony Award, along with notable nominations for the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.
Thriller collaboration
Interestingly, Quincy produced Michael Jackson’s historic Thriller album. It is believed that some of the most memorable elements of Thriller were inspired by Jones. He famously recruited Eddie Van Halen for a guitar solo on the genre-fusing track Beat It and also roped in in Vincent Price for a ghoulish voiceover on the title track. As a result, Thriller captivated music lovers and sold more than 20 million copies in 1983 alone.
