Mumbai: Rates of MHADA houses reduced, announces Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has reduced the cost of houses, announced the deputy CM of the state and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis. He took to social media platform, ‘X’ to give the citizens of the state this good news.

Reductions in rates of flats of all categories

According to the BJP leader there will be reduction in rates of houses of all categories offered by the MHADA. Fadnavis wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “Good news for Mumbaikars! I am pleased to announce a reduction in the cost of MHADA houses on declared price for the current Mumbai Lottery.”

He said that the reduction applies to the surplus tenements received under Sections 33(5) and 33(7) only. He then went on to detail the reduction in prices of houses of various categories. He said that the EWS flats will see a reduction of 25 per cent in its cost, while the reduction for the LIG flats will be 20 per cent.

Similarly those interested in buying an MIG (Middle Income Group) flat will have to shell out 15 per cent less money, while the HIG (High Income Group Flats) flat cost will be reduced by 10 per cent, he said. So the highest reduction will be seen in flats categorised as EWS, which are usually preferred by the poor people.

According to Fadnavis the move was aimed at making housing more affordable for all in the city. So the houses will now be available at a price lower than what had been declared earlier.

What will opposition say on government move?

Though this news comes as a boost for housing in Mumbai and will surely bring joy for Mumbaikars, it remains to be seen what the Opposition has to say about it. It is quite likely that the opposition parties will criticise the government’s move, much like they did the ‘Ladli Behen Yojana’ and question the intent of the government.
