Mumbai is facing continuous heavy rains, leading to disruptions in daily life. Schools and colleges in Palghar and Thane districts of Maharashtra have been closed as a precautionary measure. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting the possibility of further heavy rain in various areas on Friday, along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 kmph.

This year’s July rainfall has broken records, with 1578.4 mm of rainfall recorded till Thursday evening, surpassing the 1502.6 mm rainfall recorded in July 2020. The city experienced the highest rainfall in the last 12 years, with 1279.8 mm recorded. The incessant downpour caused waterlogging in various places, creating difficulties for commuters.
Schools and Colleges Closed in Palghar and Thane
Thane and Palghar districts have also been adversely affected by the heavy rains, with knee-deep water in certain areas of Thane. The risk of landslides has increased, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of people to safer locations. The Tansa lake, a vital water supply for Mumbai, has reached its capacity due to heavy rains, making it the fourth lake to overflow this season.
