Mumbai: Girl gang rains punches, kicks on schoolgirl over ‘small issue’; video goes viral

New Delhi: In a disturbing incident that has come to light from Mumbai’s Versova, a group of girls thrashed a schoolgirl in uniform black and blue after an argument over a “small issue”. The girls unleashed violence and punched, kicked and dragged her by the hair.

A video of the incident has surfaced and gone viral on social media platforms. It occurred Yari Road locality in Versova two weeks back.

In the video, it can be seen that a group of 4-5 girls brutally hit the school girl and abuse her. They don’t stop even though the girl falls on the ground and tries to cover herself with her hands. The assaulters are minors. She gets up and walks towards her friend. But the girls beat her up again, even more violently. Kicking and punching her harder.

The onlookers pass by, nobody intervenes. Everyone is a mute spectator. A boy separates the assaulters from the girl and asks her to go away.

After the incident, Versova Police Station officials, Sneha Foundation and Child Welfare Committee counselled all the girls and their parents. The schools concerned were also apprised about it all.

In a number of posts on X, the police said, “Taking cognisance of a viral video of the attack on a girl in Versova, Nirbhaya squad (special cell to prevent crime against women/children) conducted an investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed all the girls visible in the video are minors and belong to the same locality. An argument over a small issue led to a fight between them.”

The police added that the Nirbhaya team is keeping close tabs on the matter and patrolling has been stepped up at the place where the incident took place.
