Mumbai: A day after Vadodara, another giant crocodile was rescued from a residential area in Mumbai on Sunday. The nine-foot-long crocodile was rescued from the Mulund area of the city. It was rescued by the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) in coordination with the forest department.
Earlier, the control room of the forest department received information regarding a huge crocodile that was spotted at a residential complex in the Mulund area. Speaking about the development, Pawar Sharma, the founder of the RAWW said that the Indian Marsh crocodile was rescued this morning at 6:30 am. The crocodile was declared fit after the medical examination by Dr Priti Sathe and Dr Kirti Sathe, associate veterinarians with the foundation, after which it was released into its natural habitat, Hindustan Times reported.
Another crocodile seen in July
In July, another crocodile was seen in Mumbai’s Mithi river, which led to panic in nearby areas. Soon after, authorities asked people not to swim or take a bath in the river. The same month, another crocodile was seen roaming around on the main road near Chiplun. In recent times several crocodiles were seen near near rivers of Maharashtra and Gujarat due to heavy floods after rains. In Vadodara alone, 24 crocodiles were seen in the last two days.

Recently, a 10-foot-long crocodile caused a heavy traffic jam in Vadodara after it reached a bridge following heavy rains in the city. According to a report by TV9 Gujrati, the crocodile was found roaming around the area for a few hours. It was finally rescued by the forest department after some efforts. The department has rescued nearly 35 crocodiles this monsoon season.
In August too, several videos were seen on social media, in which crocodiles were seen moving around residential areas of the city. In one such video, a crocodile could be seen climbing the roof of a house in the city’s Akota stadium area. This led to panic among residents of the area.
