New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has surfaced from Mumbai, a 21-year-old man allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl. The two had met on a social media platform. The accused has been arrested by the police.
A case has been registered by the Vakola Police Station against the man for kidnapping and raping the minor girl under sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act). He was nabbed from Goregaon where he had been staying.
Police sources said the accused works in a hotel and he and the girl had become friends on social media after which they met. The man coaxed the girl to go with him to a place near Andheri, where he allegedly raped her. After this, the man took her to Gujarat on the pretext of showing her a village. According to the complaint, the girl was raped there three more times.
The family kept searching for her when she didn’t come back home. After the girl returned to her house, she told her family about the incidents. The victim shared a photograph of the man on Instagram with her family. The family took the victim to the nearest police station and told the cops about the incident. Acting on the information, the police registered a complaint at the Vakola Police Station.
A week back, two nursery girls were sexually abused by the sweeper of a school in Badlapur, which sparked massive protests in the region which falls under Maharashtra’s Thane district. The agitators staged demonstrations and blocked the railway tracks at Badlapur to register their anger against the incident on Tuesday. Police resorted to lathi charge and its action drew a flak.
