New Delhi: Yash has officially confirmed that he will portray the iconic character of Raavan in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana. After months of speculation, the KGF star revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India that he had been offered the role of Ravana, and it’s a part he simply couldn’t refuse.
For those living under a rock, the film also stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita.
Yash talks about playing Raavan
During the interview, Yash expressed his excitement about taking on the character of Ravana. He revealed that he was first introduced to the project by Namit Malhotra of DNEG and Prime Focus, who shared their vision for the film. Impressed by their passion, the Kannada star said that he felt their thought processes aligned perfectly.
When asked about the role, Yash explained, “If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen. To make a film of this scale, you need actors who put the project and the vision first.” He highlighted that the decision to join the film was based on his admiration for the complex character of Ravana.
Yash further added, “Raavan is the most exciting character to play as an actor. I love the shades and nuances he offers. There’s vast scope to present the character in a unique way. As an actor, I’m very excited about it.”
Yash’s production venture
Yash also revealed that his involvement in Ramayana goes beyond acting. He has decided to co-produce the film, a decision he made during the initial conversations with Namit Malhotra. The actor believes that bringing Ramayana to the big screen requires a team effort that extends beyond individual stardom.
The excitement surrounding Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is palpable. Earlier this year, a leaked photo from the film’s set featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in costume went viral, creating a huge buzz on social media.
