Bhopal: Kicking up a controversy, Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma said that India will one day witness Bangladesh like situation and people of the country will storm the official residence of Prime Minister and occupy it. The senior Congress leader’s remarks evoked sharp reactions of the BJP’s youth wing that demanded registration of a case against him.
Addressing Congress workers in Indore on Wednesday, Verma said TV news channels are reporting that the people of Bangladesh entered the Prime Minister’s official residence during the violence in the neighbouring country because of the wrong policies of Sheikh Hasina and her government.
“Remember Narendra Modi ji, one day people will enter the Prime Minister’s residence because of your wrong policies, and will occupy it (PM house). It happened recently in Sri Lanka (in 2022), where people entered the Prime Minister’s (President’s) house, and then in Bangladesh and now it is India’s turn,” said the former state minister.
“Yaad rakhna Modi, janta ek din tumhare PM Niwas me ghus jayegi”

Hitting back at the Congress leader over his remarks, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)’s Indore city president Saugat Mishra submitted a representation to officials at the MG Road police station demanding registration of a case against the Congress veteran. Mishra accused Verma of using “anti-national” language and hurting the sentiments of 140 crore Indians.
Earlier on Tuesday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid had made a similar statement saying that though “everything may look normal on the surface”, what is happening in Bangladesh could happen in India.
Bangladesh has plunged into political crisis after weeks of deadly protests over job quota forced Sheikh Hasina to quit as prime minister and flee the country.
