New Delhi: Union Cabinet on Friday approved a major new housing scheme that aims to significantly improve living conditions across the country. This initiative includes the construction of 3 crore new homes, with 2 crore (20 million) designated for rural areas and 1 crore (10 million) for urban areas. Additionally, the scheme features hostels for working women, providing much-needed support for their housing needs.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also addressed the recent Supreme Court judgement on reservation policies for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). During a detailed Cabinet discussion, it was emphasized that the NDA government is committed to upholding the Constitution crafted by Dr BR Ambedkar. According to this Constitution, there is no provision for a “creamy layer” within the reservation system for SCs and STs.
