Mini recently unveiled the electrified JCW versions of the Cooper S and Aceman. We were not really very excited honestly but we are excited about the new ICE versions of the Mini Cooper John Cooper Works. The JCW treatment is done to both the hatchback and recently launched convertible.
To start with, the JCW gets a full bodykit which is a little more aggressive than the JCW trim we see on regular models. There are more vents and the red accents are put in vertical. Exciting news, we get some real exhaust tips which we think should have been there in the first place. The JCW models get unique wheel designs which can either be had in 17-inch or 18-inch.
The interior remains more or less the same to the regular Mini models. The centre features 9.4-inch circular display and Mini has crammed everything into it and gotten rid of the instrument cluster in front of the driver. We wish that Mini would have at least gotten the instrument cluster for the JCW models but I guess we are going minimalist with performance hatchbacks as well.
In terms of performance, it has similar power to the previous generation JCW and stands at 228 bhp which is 27 more than the regular S models. Torque has seen a significant increase than the previous versions and now stands at 380 Nm. Everything is paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission which is now the only option with the JCW. The hatchback version will do 0-100 kmph in 6.1 seconds while the convertible will do it in 6.4 seconds.
These might just be the last of the internal combustion JCW Mini’s that we are seeing. While we still think that ICE engines are still preferable in at least performance cars, manufacturers are hell bent on providing us with soulless EVs which just look the same. We might get the JCW versions in India soon but only for the hardtop.
