New Delhi: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been released from Tihar Jail after spending about 17 months behind bars. The Supreme Court granted him bail on Friday morning. After completing the necessary legal procedures, the jail administration released him.
Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023 in connection with a purported money laundering case linked to Delhi Excise Policy. He was later arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9, 2023, on charges of money laundering.
Upon his release, Sisodia expressed his belief in the power of the Constitution, saying that despite attempts to imprison the opposition, the Constitution would ultimately prevail. “The dictator had dreamed that he would put the entire opposition behind bars. This is the power of the Constitution. It is with the power of this Constitution that Arvind Kejriwal will come out. The prison locks will break, Arvind Kejriwal will be released.”
Following his release, Sisodia will visit Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house to meet Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita and his parents. On Saturday, he has planned a series of visits – at 9.30 am, he will go to Rajghat, at 10.30 am, he will visit the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place, and at 11.30 am, he will address AAP workers and leaders at the party office.
