Imphal: With tensions continue to increase in Manipur, a total of 27 MLAs in the state of the BJP-led NDA adopted a resolution urging ‘mass operation’ against Kuki militants, who are responsible for killings in Jiribam district recently. Adopting a resolution, the MLAs demanded immediate actions against the militants within a week.
In their resolution, the MLAs also urged the Centre to review the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) called the case related to the recent killing to National Investigation Agency (NIA). . They also warned of going to the consulting people of the state and decide on the next course of action, if their demands are not met. Notably, while seven MLAs did not attend the meeting as they were unwell, 11 others did not provide any reason for their absence.
Congress takes swipe at BJP
Meanwhile, the Congress took a swipe at the BJP on Tuesday, after some MLAs skipped the meeting called by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Pointing out that the writing on the wall is clear, it also asked whether Union Home Minister Amit Shah is able to read it . Slamming the party, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also asked how long the agony of the people in the state would continue.
He, along with other senior party leaders, including Manipur Congress chief K Meghachandra Singh, Manipur MP A Bimol Akoijam, AICC in-charge of state Girish Chodankar, and former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and discussed ways to bring peace to Manipur.
Jairam Ramesh takes a dig at BJP on X
Taking to X on Monday, Ramesh wrote, “Other than him, only 26 showed up. Of these 26, 4 belong to the NPP whose National President has already written to the BJP National President withdrawing support to the present CM.”
