New Delhi: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan posted in Manipur shot dead two colleagues, and injured eight others on Thursday. He later took his own life, according to police officials.
The incident occurred around 8.20 pm at the CRPF camp in Lamsang, Imphal West district. Sources said that the jawan was a member of the F-120 company of the central paramilitary force. According to sources, the jawan, from the 120th battalion, opened fire using his service weapon, shooting dead a constable and a sub-inspector before turning the gun on himself. Eight CRPF personnel got injured in the shooting and were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for treatment.
In a statement, Manipur Police said: “In an unfortunate incident, tonight at around 8 pm, a suspected case of fratricide happened inside a CRPF camp in Lamsang under Imphal West District wherein one CRPF jawan opened fire killing two of his own colleagues on the spot and injuring eight others.”

What led the jawan to act so violently is yet to be known. Police are trying to uncover the details of the case. Senior Manipur Police officers and CRPF officers rushed to the spot immediately after getting information about the incident. An investigation has been launched.
