New Delhi: Following a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Manchester United and Chelsea will split the spoils when the final whistle blows. A goalless first half saw both teams strike the woodwork, with Chelsea taking the lead with a close-range header from Madueke before Rashford hammered a volley off the crossbar just before halftime. The first goal of the match didn’t come until the 70th minute, when Fernandes coolly sent the Chelsea goalie the wrong way with his penalty to give United a 1-0 lead after Sanchez brought down Hojlund.
The advantage, however, was short-lived as Caicedo, who was waiting, hammered a wonderful volley into the bottom corner to guarantee Chelsea’s escape with a point after Casemiro nodded Palmer’s corner away to the outside of the box. After another tumultuous week at Old Trafford, United may feel a little unfairly treated, considering the number of chances they had, but a point against a team in form could prove to be a good outcome, leaving the Red Devils in 13th place and far behind the Blues in fourth.
Van Nistelrooy will be back in the dugout when United hosts PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, the same day Chelsea hosts Noah in the Europa Conference League, while Amorim won’t be here until November 11.
