New Delhi: A bizarre turn of events in Gujarat’s Mehsana district left a family in shock after their loved one, who had been mourned as dead, walked into his own memorial service alive, according to a NDTV report. Forty-three-year-old Brijesh Suthar, also known as Pintu, went missing from his home in Naroda, Ahmedabad, on October 27. His family searched for him tirelessly but was unable to locate him. After several days of uncertainty, they filed a missing persons report with the local police.
On November 10, two weeks after his disappearance, a decomposed body was found near the Sabarmati Bridge. The body was brought to the family for identification, and due to its swollen state, they mistakenly identified it as Brijesh. The family assumed it was him, and with heavy hearts, they proceeded with the cremation and organised a prayer meeting to honour his memory.
A case of mistaken identity
However, on November 14, during the memorial service in Vijapur, the family was left stunned when Brijesh unexpectedly walked into the ceremony, alive and well. His return shocked both the grieving family and the attendees, who had been mourning his death just moments before.
“I looked everywhere for him. His phone was off, and then the police showed us the body. It was swollen, and we misidentified it,” said Brijesh’s mother, visibly shaken by the bizarre sequence of events. According to an India Today report, Brijesh had been struggling with depression and financial stress due to his stock market investments.
Police reopen investigation into the unidentified body
The situation has now left the police puzzled, as the true identity of the body that was cremated remains unknown. The police have reopened their investigation into the unidentified body, which had been found as an unclaimed corpse and had undergone a postmortem before being handed over to the Suthar family.
Brijesh’s sudden return has left both the family and the authorities grappling with this extraordinary case. As the investigation continues, the question remains: whose body was cremated in place of Brijesh?
