New Delhi: A major fire broke out at the Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) facility located in Uddanapalli near Nagamangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur in the early hours of Saturday. The blaze originated in the mobile phone accessories painting unit. All employees on-site were evacuated. There has been no reports of any casualties in the incident so far.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the area to douse the flames. According to sources, TEPL employs approximately 4,500 workers, operating on a shift basis, with around 80 percent of the workforce being women. Around 1,500 staff were on duty at the facility at the time of the incident. The unit also contained a storage facility for chemicals, which raised concerns about the fire’s potential hazards.
No casualties or injuries reported
“The incident took place at a chemical storage facility on the campus at around 6am. Seven fire tenders were deployed to manage the situation. Fortunately, there have been no casualties or injuries reported,” stated a senior official from the Hosur Fire Station to PTI.
Company statement
An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. A company spokesperson said: “There has been an unfortunate incident of fire at our plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Our emergency protocols at the plant ensured that all our employees are safe. The cause of the fire is under investigation and we will take necessary actions to safeguard the interest of our employees and other stakeholders.”
