Mumbai: With the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls ending in Maharashtra last year, all eyes in the state are now on the local body elections. While all political parties getting for the same, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced that it would contest the Nagpur Municipal elections on its own and not with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners Congress and NCP (SP).
Speaking to reporters on Saturday Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said, “We will fight Mumbai and Nagpur Municipal Corporation on our own, whatever happens will happen. We have to see for ourselves. We will fight Nagpur on our own. Uddhav Thackeray has given us such a signal.”
Party should fight local body elections on its own: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut
He added, “I just now discussed it with our city Shiv Sena chief Pramod Manmode. In the alliance, the workers do not get a chance to fight in the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly. This is affecting the party, in fact, the growth of the party. We should fight in the Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad, and Nagar Panchayat on our own and strengthen our party.”
Observing that it was the responsibility of the Congress to save the INDIA bloc, Raut added that no meeting of alliance partners was held after the Lok Sabha polls. “It is the responsibility of the Congress party to save the INDIA alliance. Congress is the biggest party. The INDIA alliance was indeed formed for the Lok Sabha elections and after the elections not a single meeting of the INDIA alliance was held,” Raut said.
‘Congress must call INDIA bloc meeting’
Further hitting at the grand old party, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader further added, “Congress party was also responsible for calling this meeting. We have not been able to declare the convener of the INDIA alliance till now, if we have to fight against a force then we should keep all these things in mind.”
