Pune: A political row erupted in Maharashtra pm Tuesday after Rs 5 crore in cash was seized from a car in Pune while the model code of conduct is in place in the poll-bound state with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claiming the amount belonged to an MLA from the ruling Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The seizure took place on Monday evening near the Khed-Shivapur plaza on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway during routine police checking, an official said.
Police said the cash recovered is unaccounted for.
“A car travelling towards Satara was intercepted during nakabandi. A search led to the seizure of Rs 5 crore cash from the vehicle’s four occupants. The money is being counted by police and district election officials. A probe into the source of the cash and other details is underway,” the Pune rural police official said.
Sharing a screenshot of a TV news report about the recovery, Raut claimed Rs 15 crore were found in the car of an MLA from the Mindhe tribe at the village Shivapur toll booth. “Who is this MLA?” he asked.
