New Delhi: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, announcing 15 new names. The party had already announced names of 65 candidates in the first list earlier. The list was published in the party’s mouthpiece, Saamna. It includes names like former BJP MLA Anil Gote, who will contest from Dhule City after joining the Sena (UBT) earlier this week.
Other candidates on the list include Raju Tadvi from Chopada, Jayshree Mahajan from Jalgaon City, and Shraddha Jadhav, the former Mayor of Mumbai, who will contest from Wadala against BJP’s Kalidas Kolambkar, an eight-time MLA. Dhananjay Bodore will contest from Kalyan East, against BJP candidate Sulabha Gaikwad, the wife of jailed MLA Ganpat Gaikwad. Raju Tadvi, an education officer with the BMC, has been fielded from the Scheduled Tribe-reserved Chopada constituency after resigning from his position on Friday.
The list was announced despite no clarity on the seat sharing formula between the Maha Vikas Aghadi, tensions have emerged between the Sena (UBT) and the Congress over seat allocations in Mumbai, particularly for the Colaba and Versova constituencies, both of which the Sena (UBT) is claiming. The party is also facing internal fissures for some seats with many claimant to a single seat.
The AICC has instructed senior leaders to coordinate with Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray to address the ongoing disputes related to seat claims. The final seat-sharing formula for the alliance is expected to be announced later today, as the parties work to solidify their strategies ahead of the elections scheduled for November 20.
