Prayagraj: Preparations for Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, are advancing at a fast pace. The massive spiritual event, which is expected to attract millions of devotees from around the world, is set to begin on January 13. Ahead of the grand event, the district administration has placed a strong emphasis on fire prevention and safety for the millions of devotees expected to attend.
With preparations in full swing, new fire stations have been inaugurated, and a fleet of 365 vehicles is on standby to respond swiftly to any fire-related emergencies. The authorities have also introduced advanced technology, such as firefighting robots, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), fire mist bikes, and soon-to-be-deployed firefighting boats that will use water from the Triveni Sangam to extinguish flames.
Enhanced security arrangements
ADG Fire Padmaja Chauhan said that fire safety drills and awareness campaigns are being carried out to ensure that both authorities and devotees are well-prepared. “We’ve instructed officers to educate the public on handling fire incidents calmly and efficiently. The mock drills will help people react without panic,” Chauhan said.
In addition to fire safety, the administration is focusing on other crucial aspects, including crowd management. Rehearsals for key rituals like the special Ganga Aarti are being held at the sacred Triveni Sangam, where the Mela will take place. This year’s Mahakumbh Mela will be held from January 13 to February 26, 2025, with the grand event to take place on January 29, in Siddhi Yoga, a time deemed auspicious for the occasion.
Mahakumbh Mela to run till February 26
This year’s event, known as Mahakumbh Mela, will run till February 26, at the Triveni Sangam — the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The Mela, considered the biggest religious festival for devotees of Sanatan Dharma, will take place in Siddhi Yoga, a special time period in Hindu tradition, on January 29.
As part of the preparation efforts, rehearsals for significant rituals, including the special Ganga Aarti, are being conducted at the Triveni Sangam to ensure everything runs smoothly. The focus is not only on spiritual events but also on the safety of the massive crowds that are expected to gather.
The Mahakumbh Mela is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It is organized every 12 years, with the last Mahakumbh held in 2013. The event brings together saints and devotees from all corners of the world. Devotees come to take a dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam, which is believed to wash away sins and bring spiritual benefits. The view of the Mahakumbh Mela is said to be awe-inspiring, with millions of people gathered at the banks of the river to witness the divine spectacle.
