New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keeping continuous track of the situation at the Maha Kumbh and is constant after the stampede in the early hours of Wednesday that left several people injured and 20 are feared dead.
Since the stampede situation unfolded, the prime minister has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thrice in a span of one hour to take stock of the situation and also gave directions to bring the situation under control and take immediate relief measures, sources said.
“PM Modi spoke to Yogi Ji about the situation at the Kumbh Mela, reviewed the developments, and called for immediate support measures,” an official said.
At least 30 people are injured and 20 feared dead after a stampede-like situation broke out at Triveni Sangam amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh as millions of pilgrims turned up for a holy bath on Mauni Amavasya.
According to the administration, the situation has been brought under control with the akharas continuing their planned ‘Amrit Snan’ in smaller batches after calling it off earlier in the morning following the incident.
