Ghazipur: A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district claimed six lives and left ten others injured when a pickup van carrying devotees from Prayagraj collided with a truck.
The accident took place on Varanasi-Gorakhpur highway near Kusumhi Kala in Nandganj police station area.
How accident took place
According to police officials, the pickup van was transporting pilgrims back to Ghazipur after they participated in Maha Kumbh bath in Prayagraj. As the vehicle reached the Sahedi area, the driver reportedly lost control, and the van crashed into a truck. The collision was severe, causing several passengers to be thrown out onto the road. Six people, including two men, two women, and two children, died on the spot.
Nearby residents, hearing the loud crash, rushed to help and informed the police. Authorities from the Nandganj police station quickly reached the location and began rescue operations. The injured passengers were taken to the district hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Iraj Raja confirmed the fatalities and said that all possible efforts were being made to provide medical care to the injured. He added that the police had taken control of the accident site and removed the damaged vehicles to clear the highway.
Senior district officials also arrived at the hospital to monitor the condition of the injured and coordinate further actions. The administration assured that the victims’ families would be provided with necessary assistance.
Uttar Pradesh CM expresses condolences
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He directed the district administration to ensure that proper medical care was provided to those undergoing treatment.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or loss of control may have been the primary reasons. Officials are also looking into whether road conditions or mechanical failure contributed to the crash.
