New Delhi: With the large number of devotees continue to gather at the Maha Kumbh Mela and on the backdrop of stampede in New Delhi Railway Station last night, the Indian Railways has decided to start four more special trains for Prayagraj. The step has been taken to ease the gathering of massive crowd at platforms and also for comfortable journey of devotees
According to officials while three of the four trains will start from New Delhi Railway station for Prayagraj, one will depart from the Anand Vihar Railway Staion. While one train will depart in the late afternoon, the three remaining trains will depart in the evening.

Sharing the information, the authorities said, “For the convenience of the rail passengers and to clear extra rush during Mahakumbh Mela, Railways have decided to run Mahakumbh Mela Special trains.” Notably, apart from the Northern Railways, Central Railways too has announced specual trains for the Maha Kumbh. The mela, which started on January 13 will continue till February 26.
Speaking to ANI, Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Central Railway, said, “Different arrangements have been made for the passengers at the originating stations of the special trains that are being run for Mahakumbh. Here, additional ticket booking counters, May I Help You booths, and continuous information through Public announcement systems have been arranged. Central Railway will run four trains for Mahakumbh.”
18 people died in stampede last night at New Delhi station
At least 18 people had lost their lives and several others were injured followng a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station last night. A large crowd had gathered at the station to catch trains for Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, leading to the incident. As per the authorities, stampede aoccured due to confusion over name of trains going to the holy city, as names of both trains, of which one was yet to come on the platform, was starting with Prayagraj.
