Prayagraj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his heartfelt greetings to the holy land of Sangam in Prayagraj, where preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025 are in full swing. In his address, he praised the efforts of saints, sages and countless workers contributing to the success of this grand event, calling it a “great yagya of unity” that will draw attention from across the world.
Maha Kumbh, known for its confluence of faith, knowledge and devotion, is set to welcome millions of devotees daily for 45 consecutive days. PM Modi highlighted the scale and grandeur of the preparations, emphasizing how the event is shaping a “new city and new history” on the sacred land of Prayagraj.
“This event represents the cultural and spiritual journey of India that has been ongoing for thousands of years,” he said, adding that it is not just about external rituals but about awakening inner consciousness.
PM Modi highlights significance of Prayagraj
The Prime Minister described Prayagraj as a place of immense spiritual importance, where every step leads to a holy site. He explained that the city is more than just the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. According to ancient texts, Prayagraj is the “king of pilgrimages,” where all sacred sites and divine powers converge during the auspicious month of Magh.
“Without Prayagraj, the Puranas are incomplete, and its glory is sung in the hymns of the Vedas,” PM Modi remarked, emphasizing the city’s revered status.

PM Modi lauded the Maha Kumbh for its unique ability to unite people. He said the event transcends barriers of caste, community, and social differences, showcasing a collective vision of “One India – Great India.” From villages, towns, and cities, people journey to Prayagraj, where saints, scholars, and common people come together to take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam.
“This is a place where distinctions end, and the focus shifts to a shared goal and common purpose,” he noted.
What PM Modi said about Namami Gange Mission
Recognizing the crucial role of cleanliness in making Maha Kumbh successful, the Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of sanitation workers. Over 15,000 sanitation workers, referred to as “Gangadoots,” “Ganga Praharis,” and “Ganga Mitras,” have been deployed to maintain hygiene and waste management in Prayagraj.
PM Modi also mentioned the Namami Gange program, which has accelerated efforts to ensure clean and pollution-free rivers, further enhancing the sanctity of the Maha Kumbh. He expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers for their dedication, calling them the backbone of this monumental event.
