New Delhi: The security has been upped many a notch for the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj after concerns by intelligence agencies. As per latest arrangements, no individual, vehicle, or goods will be allowed to enter the city without thorough checks at all interstate and interdistrict borders.
The decision was taken during a recent meeting chaired by ADG Zone Prayagraj, Bhanu Bhaskar, where officials from various zones, ranges, districts, and the GRP were present. It was resolved that extensive checks will be conducted at all entry points to Prayagraj, including borders shared with Madhya Pradesh’s Satna and Rewa districts, as well as Varanasi, Kanpur, and Lucknow zones.
Intensive inspection before entering Prayagraj
Every person, vehicle, and item will undergo intensive inspection, aided by state-of-the-art equipment, before being granted access to the city. CCTV cameras will be installed at all checkpoints, a process that will begin this October. These measures aim to instill fear among terrorists and criminals.
The Maha Kumbh will host prominent figures and diplomats from around the world, necessitating robust security arrangements. SSP of the Maha Kumbh Mela, Rajesh Dwivedi, stated that a comprehensive security plan covering land, water, and air has been developed. This will include snipers, NSG commandos, ATS, STF, bomb detection squads, and sniffer dogs. Special forces will be deployed across Prayagraj, the mela grounds, key temples, and the Sangam.
Snipers, sniffer dogs and SWAT teams
Two NSG commando units and 26 anti-sabotage teams will conduct inspections throughout the city, with additional ATS and STF units stationed at the fairgrounds. The security plan also includes 20 snipers, 3 sniffer dogs, 4 SWAT teams, and anti-drone systems in key locations. Bulletproof outposts will be set up at multiple locations.
Given the anticipated doubling of devotees this year, holding areas will be established at the borders of neighbouring districts. Entry to Prayagraj will only be permitted when the traffic pressure in the city eases. The last Kumbh witnessed around 2.5 crore visitors, but this time, the number is expected to surpass 4.5 crore.
