Prayagraj: The Maha Kumbh Mela witnessed a massive crowd on Monday, which led to the closure of over 10 pontoon bridges. This caused huge inconvenience to the public, resulting in chaos and visible anger among the crowd. In Sector-20, people began protesting against the situation. Arguments broke out between the public and the police, which escalated further and an agitated mob vandalised the vehicle of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
Earlier in the day, thousands of devotees broke through barricades and entered the fairgrounds. The situation became so overwhelming that even the police started misdirecting people, sending them from one closed bridge to another. The heavy rush is attributed to the upcoming Mouni Amavasya Snan Parv on January 29, during which devotees gather to take a holy dip at the Sangam. Many have already started arriving, resulting in an unprecedented crowd.
