New Delhi: In a daring act, Assistant Locomotive Pilot Ramji Kumar, who was driving the Brahmaputra Mail recently alongside Locomotive Driver RK Ranjan, climbed down from the passenger train to rectify the air leakage, when it was stopped on the railway bridge over a river. The video that has gone viral shows him getting down from the train and moving on the railway bridge to sort out the issue.
The incident reportedly took place on September 26., when the Brahmaputra Mail (1567) was on its way from Old Delhi Railway Station to Kamkhya. The train stopped at bridge number 456 between Bijni Railway Station and Patiladah near Rangiya Junction in Assam. It was then that Kumar got down the train, and moved from the engine to coach number 21 by through the bridge to rectify the problem.
Many social media users praise ALP for brave act
While many praised Kumar for his dedication to work, others also questioned Indian Railways, accusing it of negligence for pilots. On of the users on X, Khurshed Swamy wrote, “ Salute the ALP! But why must Staff undertake such hazardous acts… isn’t their life precious & valuable? Who gives Phit for Bioloos & LED lights? Install CCTVs across Coaches such that they snap a pic the moment an Alarm Chain is pulled. Why does this happen over a River Always!”
“It is a matter of shame if the loco pilot and goods guard have to go in this manner for a minor emergency chain pulling inside the train. There is also TT staff inside the train, they can be trained for this, it will be just a simple 15-minute training on how to reset the ACP,” wrote another user.
Another added, “Feel sorry for Loco pilots who always go extra miles to do their jobs and ensure safety of passengers. Where certain passengers feel trains are their property and can pull chains for fun and easiness. Remove chains from each berth and put at the 1 point.”
