Ramnagar: In view of the growing number of tourists in the Jim Corbett national park in Uttarakhand, Corbett Tiger Conservation Foundation (CTCF) has decided to open outlets of local products near the entry gate of the park. The foundation has also sanctioned a budget for giving a new look to the rest house. The forest look of the rest house will be maintained.
In its meeting in the Dehradun Zoo on Monday, The CTCF took several decisions to promote eco-tourism, and prevent man-animal conflict. Forest minister Subodh Uniyal, who chaired the meeting, sought the CTCF’s report of works and schemes.

The CTCF also approved a proposal to constitute 50 Eco Development Committee (EDC) to prevent man-animal conflict and create fresh job opportunities for the local people. Simultaneously, locals will be given priority for driving Gypsy vehicles and becoming tourist guides near the Corbett national park. A Standard Operating Procedure will be made for the funded works. It is also decided to purchase Rafts for patrolling the river areas, besides the protection of wild animals.
Installation of cameras at all gates
Another important decision is the installation of CCTV cameras at all gates and internet connection for them. A decision was also taken to provide financial assistance of Rs five lakh to those who sacrifice their lives during forest fire or protection of wild animals.
Proposal to purchase guns of different bores
At the meeting, it was also proposed to purchase 60 guns of .12 bore guns, five pump action guns, 65 guns of 315 bores, and eight guns of .32 bore. There is also a plan to open a new gate for the tourists in Corbett Rajaji.
Outlets of local products at the entry gates
Last year, the park had received around 3.44 lakh tourists. Keeping in view the arrival of a high number of tourists, the CTCF has decided to open outlets for local products near the entry gate of the park. The CTCF hopes that the tourists will prefer to purchase the products of Uttarakhand from these outlets. Applications will be also invited to appoint women as drivers.
